From the director of 'All quiet on the Western Front', comes this stirring drama considered by many to be one of the best films about world World War II ever made. A Walk in the Sun follows an infantry platoon on one morning from the time they hit the beach at Salerno to the time they reach and capture their objective, a farmhouse six miles inland. Dana Andrews stars as the sergeant who reluctantly becomes the platoon leader after their lieutenant is killed before they even reach the shore. As the men struggle along, they incur heavy losses from repeated ambushes and surprise attacks. Throughout the film, the men think about their place in the great scheme of the war, about their fear of being killed, and about the hard, dirty, tedious, and dangerous job of being a front-line foot soldier. A sense of resignation hangs over them. They are there to do a job, and although they don't even understand what part they play in the big picture, they go and do it anyway, even at the cost of their lives.
