Space cargo ship pilot James Links and his family are on the run, unjustly accused of interplanetary terrorism. Mars offers hope for clearing the family name, but can the Links' get safely out of Earth's orbit with governments, agencies and spies throwing everything they've got at the Ender? The Links family dodges Earth's World Defense Surveillance on one side and mysterious Martian agents on the other, only to find themselves caught in the middle-among the smugglers, thugs, and gangsters who navigate the space between them all. Fortunately, they have an ally in Orbital Frame Dolores. She's got even more secrets and power to reveal in the second volume of Zone of the Enders: Dolores, i! The 2001 broadcast series Zone of the Enders: Dolores was released in conjunction with the OAV Zone of the Enders: 2167 and the PlayStation2 game. James Links continues his struggle to save his rather unpleasant children and return to his wife on Mars, which involves battling the U.N. army, Wired (an undercover Earth police force), a smuggler-warlord, and two deadly brothers. There are torture scenes, gun fights, ray gun fights, mecha fights, knife fights, fistfights, and plenty of blood. But everything hinges on Dolores, the superpowerful and subservient mecha who dreams of becoming Cinderella. The minimal plot involves improbable coincidences, impossible stunts, and violations of the basic laws of physics: it's only there to string together various battles. Zone of the Enders: Dolores might be an exciting game, but it's not much fun as a series. (Rated 15 and older: alcohol use, violence, brief nudity, risqué humor) --Charles Solomon
